We Deserve

We deserve… a school system that is not only in the business of standardized tests, but the development of life-long learners.

We deserve… a system that teaches our kids to be globally competitive.

We deserve… a system that provides its teachers with the support, resources, and leadership necessary to confront the issues that our children face every day.

We deserve… a system that embraces the voice of its community and respects the opinions of its parents.

We deserve… an excellent education not because we want it, but because we need it.

We deserve… an excellent education because our neighbors need it, our country needs it and our democracy needs it.

As a member of the Board I will work to ensure that your voices are heard and that the will of the people and best interest of our kids always prevail…
Community

There is no doubt that crime and poverty rates, and the business and housing markets are all affected by the education system.  In fact, the quality of education our kids receive spread to every corner of our community.  It is therefore critical that the entire system – the students, teachers and administrators – is prepared to address the issues of our day and cultivate generation after generation to harness wisdom of our community.  Because our Board of Education is elected by and from our
community it is important that its members represent that wisdom and attend the needs our community creates.

Accountability

Accountability is the foundation of any system.  Without it, the very purpose for which it was founded is undermined and the system itself becomes barren and toxic.  In a school system, accountability is safeguarded by constantly evaluating and re-evaluating the quality of the system’s processes as well as the individuals who comprise the system. Frankly, the school system is a multi-million dollar enterprise and should be run as one.  Our school system needs a process that allows students, parents and teachers to voice their concerns about how their schools’ system is run.  And, the individuals within our system all need to be accountable to one another.  Only then can our education system inspire generations of the intellectually prosperous.

Hold quarterly meetings specifically for teachers, district staff and Board Members to increase teacher participation in the development of policy

The number one ingredient when creating a high performing school is“school culture”.  A school environment that not only sets high academic expectations but endeavors to develop the entire child by reinforcing the values and principles necessary to compete in the age of globalization.  Our schools must be dedicated to creating students who are academically and socially efficient and who are intrinsically motivated to become leaders in society.  We must create a culture of achievement where students are not just inspired to learn by teachers, parents and staff, but also by each other.
